"Cheers." This is our nightly routine, even though we don’t drink alcohol. He’s a perfectionist and keeps a consistent daily rhythm. He’s very particular about his exercise habits and what he eats. Every night, he always has a piece of chocolate packed with sugar. Instead of clinking beer glasses, we pinch the chocolate between our index finger and thumb, look into each other’s eyes, and gently tap them together for a toast. This eye-to-eye clink is apparently a German tradition.

Whether it’s a happy day or a sad day, we always do our chocolate toast. It signals the start of our relaxation time at the end of the day. “Good job today.” The chocolate slowly melts away.
